History of the Dodge Durango

Next year marks the twentieth anniversary of the introduction of the Dodge Durango. The model first made its debut in the 1998 lineup as a competitor to the popular Toyota 4Runner and Ford Explorer. In honor of the anniversary and to celebrate the upcoming 2017 model, we thought we’d go over the history of the Dodge Durango.

The Durango was originally created to mirror the Dodge Dakota truck, having a similar front body style but with a covered back, making it a mid-sized SUV. The second generation debuted in 2003 at the North American International Auto Show and was considerably larger, therefore classifying it as a full-sized SUV.

Since its introduction in 1998 the Durango has been a popular staple in the Dodge lineup.

The third generation of the Dodge Durango received a noticeable facelift and plenty of remarkable features, both inside and out. It was originally thought that the Durango would no longer exist after the 2009 (second generation) model, but Dodge unveiled teasers online that proved otherwise.

With outstanding features on the 2017 Dodge Durango, such as personalized memory seating, an available dual-screen Blu-ray entertainment system, and a customizable digital cluster display, it’s no wonder that this vehicle has been able to last this long in the automotive world.

We’re excited to see what’s to come for the Dodge Durango in the years ahead! Visit us today at Corwin Dodge Ram to test drive the all-new 2017 Dodge Durango.

Dodge Rocks Gas Monkey Event Sponsors Motley Crue’s Farewell Tour

Dodge Rocks Gas Monkey EventThe Dodge Rocks Gas Monkey event, which recently brought together rock and roll  and classic cars in Dallas,  featured an awesome performance by Motley Crue. The concert celebrated both the band’s partnership with Dodge (which is sponsoring the group’s farewell tour) and the automakers 100th anniversary. The event was open to pre-registered Doge vehicle owners, which resulted in the Dodge Rocks Gas Monkey event attracting over 1,000 Dodge cars, as people drove in for some classic music.   Billboard reports that die-hard Crue fan Tim Kuniskis, who also happens to be the Dodge President, said Motely Crue “’fits the brand perfectly,’ especially as Dodge moves from any family-friendly vehicles such as the Avenger sedan and Caravan minivan to becoming a ‘mainstream performance brand.””

The Dodge partnership with Motley Crue started in 2013 when their song “Kickstart My Heart” was used in the car company’s ad campaigns. When the automaker had to renew the partnership, the band’s managers told them about the farewell tour, which is how the partnership got started.

The sponsorship goes through the end of the North American Motley Crue Farewell Tour, which ends November 22nd. Kickstart your heart with a new Dodge like the 2015 Challenger or Dart from Corwin Dodge today!

Challenger Hellcat Will Return 22 MPG HWY

When you’ve got a vehicle that promises 707 horsepower and promises the potential to burn through 1.5 gallons of gasoline every minute that you run it at full throttle, it’s reasonable to stand back from all that information and guess that you’re probably not going to be getting very good gas mileage.

Good news if you’re one such individual crazy enough to think they can handle the madness that is the Challenger Hellcat: it’s actually not that bad on fuel economy, returning 21 mpg hwy with the six-speed manual transmission and 22 mpg hwy with the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic.

“The new 2015 Dodge Challenger is the perfect street / strip muscle car,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO, Dodge and SRT Brands. “As the fastest muscle car ever, the Challenger Hellcat can run 10-second ETs at the track, and then get 22 miles per gallon on the drive home. With a starting price of $59,995, there’s nothing else that even comes close.”

Truer words were never spoken. In comparison: the Lamborghini Aventador will set you back $425,845, generate 700 horsepower, and return 18 mpg highway.

What does that tell us? If you’ve got the money to buy an Aventador, then you should just buy seven Challenger Hellcats. While we might not be able to get you seven of them, come talk to our sales specialists at Corwin Dodge to see how you can go about making the Hellcat yours. Trust us: don’t think that you can control it, because you can only hope to contain it.

1964 Dodge Custom 880 Straight from the Founding Family

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Dodge built 1,058 unique 1964 Dodge Custom 880 convertibles. Now one especially distinct model is coming up for sale, and this one comes straight from the Dodge family.

The first owner of this remarkable car was Anna Thomson Dodge, wife of Horace E. Dodge, one of the founders of the Dodge Brothers. It then passed on to Mary Wilson, who was married to Ralph Wilson, the owner of the Buffalo Bills football team. He died this past March.

Mary Wilson came to own the car in 1994 after her then future husband purchased the car at a DuMouchelles auction. He placed the winning bid of $13,000. At the time, the car still had its original tires and only had 7,862 original miles.

After Anna Thomson Dodge’s death in 1970, the car remained in the Dodge family’s possession until the 1994 auction.

Now, after Wilson’s husband’s death, she is selling the car. In an interview with The New York Times, she said, “It’s an incredible car with a pretty cool history. I hate selling it, but I just need to get rid of some things.”

The car currently has just over 20,000 miles and is in a remarkably unrestored state. It is powered by a 361-cubic-inch V8 engine, which still starts and run smoothly. It also has many unique features for a 1964 car including an AM-FM radio, Auto Pilot (an early version of cruise control), and an adjustable steering wheel.

Whoever ends up buying this beauty will get an amazing piece of history. Those looking for a more current model, though, should stop by Corwin Dodge to see our great selection of new Dodges.

2015 Charger Pursuit

“Dodge has a strong police car heritage, and we are proud to offer vehicle armed with modern muscle and cutting-edge technology to help law enforcement agencies perform their duties,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of Dodge Brand, SRT Brand, and Fleet Operations. “The new Pursuit police car is based on our new 2015 Dodge Charger. Dodge Viper May Get Supercharged V10 Engine

If you thought the 707 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was powerful, wait until we tell you the rumors we’ve heard this week. Apparently, Dodge might be working to produce a Viper with a supercharged V10 engine, which could bring the performance vehicle’s power up to a whopping 800 hp.

Supercharged V10 engine | 2014 SRT Viper
If rumors are right, we might see the Viper supercharged with a V10 engine; increasing its horsepower to 800!

Automotive journalists at Allpar have had at least two sources confirm that supercharged V10 engines were recently delivered to Chrysler Group.

Currently, the Viper offers 640 hp when outfitted with its naturally-aspirated 8.4-liter V10 engine. Adding the supercharged power could raise that already impressive number by 120 horsepower. That is, of course, if the transmission, block, and other internal parts could handle all that power. We wouldn’t be surprised if the new engine requires the automaker to re-configure its current mechanics.

We at Corwin Dodge will keep our ears peeled for any more news or hints as to what the new Dodge Viper could have in store for performance enthusiasts. For now, we’ll be dreaming of 800 hp.

Dodge Celebrates 100 Years

Dodge Brand Turning 100

July 1 officially marked the 100th anniversary for Dodge. Dodge celebrates 100 years by inviting a handful of journalists to spend the day at Meadow Brook Hall in Michigan. KBB.com shared some of the highlights from the event.

Brothers John and Horace Dodge started their automotive company in 1914 and the first Dodge-branded vehicle rolled off the assembly line in November 1914. From then on, Dodge has been a mainstay in the automotive industry producing some of America’s most iconic models, including the minivan.

On display at the press event were some pretty spectacular milestone vehicles, including the 1915 Dodge Brothers Touring Car, the first vehicle to come out of the Dodge Main assembly plant. There was also a 1929 Dodge Senior Six Roadster, a 1941 Dodge Command Car used in World War II, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, a 1984 Dodge Caravan, and a 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10.
