If you think winter is hard on you, just think about your vehicle! All winter long, you take it out every day and expose it to the ice, the snow, the salt and that bitter cold. For those of you that would like to see your vehicle arrive in the spring relatively unscathed, here’s how to protect your vehicle in the winter.
- Always use a brush to remove the snow from your car. You may be tempted to do it with a shovel when you are out shoveling the walk but you may end scratching the clear coat or even the paint.
- Use the time between storms constructively. At the very least, take your vehicle through a car wash (only if it is a brushless wash). Or if you really care, find a do-it-yourself place. Washers there have the kind of pressure you need to really get that salt off.
- Though it might be too late by the time winter rolls around, salt can worsen scratches and other damage to your vehicle’s clear coat. Use touch-up paint to fill in those spots before the salt gets in!
