Dodge Viper Ordering to Resume for Final 2017 Models

We’re going to miss the Viper!

2017 is a somber year for Dodge fans as it marks the final production year of the beloved Viper. The legendary sports supercar has been an icon since it first debuted and was a dream car for many who grew up in the 1990s.

For customers who want a final piece of history before it’s retired, make sure you order the 2017 Dodge Viper as soon as possible.

While most of Dodge’s 2017 lineup is already available for purchase, the Viper was delayed as the automaker struggled to keep up with the overwhelming demand for the final Vipers. This was particularly true for the track-ready ACR models, which suffered a shortage of its carbon-fiber aero wings.

Now that Dodge has a more clear idea of how many vehicles are being ordered and thus how many should be built, Dodge Viper ordering will resume in the next month, most likely by the end of the year.

Unfortunately, if you’re hoping that this “off the charts” demand will mean that the Viper will make a surprise return in 2018, Dodge officials confirm that this is the supercar’s final run.

2017 Dodge Viper Special Editions Celebrate End of Production

2017 marks the end of an era. As the Dodge Viper comes up on its 25th anniversary, Fiat Chrysler has also announced the nameplate’s end of production; after 2017, the legendary Viper will be no more. The final generation of the Viper, introduced in 2013, will be getting one last upgrade as well as six Viper special editions, in order to commemorate the Dodge Viper’s final year on the market. Get ‘em while you can!

We’re going to miss the Dodge Viper, but these special editions are a great farewell present!

FCA didn’t cite a reason for ending production of the model, but doing a little research points towards slowing sales numbers and tighter emissions regulations as the underlying cause. When the announcement was made that the Viper would be going into retirement earlier this June, the brand rolled out five special edition models, but enthusiasm for the Viper was so high that Dodge saw fit to add a sixth to the lineup.

For the 2017 model year, Viper special editions include the Viper 1:28 Edition ACR, GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR, two Snakeskin Editions (GTC and ACR), VoooDoo II Edition ACR, and Dodge Dealer Edition ACR. These special editions will be sold alongside the standard models, and all will be powered by the same 645-HP V10. Prices have not yet been revealed, but industry insiders speculate the base model will start around $85k.

2016 Dodge Viper ACR’s Performance Unmatched

2015 Dodge Viper
The ACR will be the fastest street-legal Viper ever!

Dodge calls the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR the “fastest street-legal Viper track car ever,” making it the most powerful Viper that you can actually drive to work. ACR stands for American Club Racer, and the Dodge Viper ACR is Dodge’s street-legal race car, thanks to the insane abilities ACR cars are equipped to exhibit.

ACRs typically feature aerodynamic tweaks, stiffened suspensions, and few options – in almost every case, the ACR performance badge goes on a race car for the purpose of track performance.

“The Viper has always been more of a street-legal race car than a track-capable streetcar, and the new 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is the fastest street-legal Viper track car ever,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dodge Brand and SRT Brand, FCA North America in a statement. “Our goal is to arm our enthusiasts with the ultimate Viper track car to dominate road courses around the world.”

The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR’s performance is unmatched on the streets, thanks to new high-performance tires specifically designed for ACR, and Carbon Ceramic Matrix 15-inch two-piece rotors and six-piston front calipers by Brembo®.

We can’t help but drool. If you happen to find yourself behind the wheel of a 2016 Dodge Viper ACR, we want to hear every last wheel-gripping detail. And to satiate your dreams in the meantime, be sure to check out our past Viper coverage!

The Dodge Viper 1 of 1 Configurator Is Now Live!

We hope you have as much fun building your dream Viper as we have!

Perhaps you heard of the Dodge Viper 1 of 1 Configurator? It is an online program that allows you to build your custom, wholly-unique Dodge Viper SRT. Well, the program launched earlier this month and so far critics seem to be slightly addicted.

Let loose your creativity on one of our favorite sports car models as the online Configurator gives designers free reign in choosing the vehicle’s colors and designs.

We warn you: you may need an extra dose of self-discipline or a lot of time before you sit down to create your custom Viper. With an estimated 25 million potential Viper combinations, we at Corwin Dodge can imagine it would be quite easy to lose track of time designing your one-of-a-kind Viper.

Truth be told, we figured we should let our readers know about the website going live before we exploring it for ourselves. We anticipate getting lost in the creative process as it sounds like many others already have.

However, now that we’ve passed along the message, we have some creating of our own to do. We hope you have as much fun creating your Viper SRT as we will!

Dodge Viper Documentary Highlights Its Hand-Built Craftsmanship

In order to highlight the impressive design and manufacturing process of the world-famous Viper, Dodge recently released a documentary that captures the hand-built craftsmanship of the iconic model. The 22-minutre film, titled “Viper: DNA of a Supercar,” reveals what makes the Viper the envy of every car enthusiast around the globe.

The new Dodge Viper documentary shows every phase of the assembly and design process, from blueprint to finished product. According to Dodge, the Viper consists of over 3,700 components, made of hand-wrapped leather and carbon-fiber lightweight materials. All together, the Viper’s paint process, which is done by hand, takes over 150-plus hours. That’s the kind of attention to detail found in every Viper.

“The Dodge Viper is a precision-handcrafted machine expressively built to stimulate all the senses of an enthusiast’s soul,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of Dodge and SRT. “It’s not widely known what it takes to create this supercar, including the 140 to 160 hours to hand paint each Viper, so we produced the film to show what sets the Viper apart from everything else in its segment.”

If you’re curious about the new documentary, Dodge announced that it will be sharing it across its social media channels for fans to enjoy.

Dodge Viper May Return to 24 Hours of Le Mans This Year

The Dodge Viper may be returning to Le Mans!
The Dodge Viper may be returning to Le Mans!

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most prestigious races in the world, up there with the Indianapolis 500 and the Monaco Grand Prix, which together make up the unofficial Triple Crown of Motorsport.

As such, Le Mans deserves prestigious racers, which is why we’re excited to hear the Dodge Viper may be returning to the endurance challenge despite initial difficulties.

The new Viper GTS-R had been pulled out of Le Mans back in March and withdrawn from the US series in October, but the Riley Technologies racing outfit didn’t back down. With or without factory support, it has made its goal clear: to bring the Viper back to the competition and take the crown once again.

We’ve got to say we stand behind them at Corwin Dodge. Riley Tech won both the drivers’ and teams’ titles in the United SportsCar Championship last season—it would be a shame not to see them compete again this year.

Two New Dodge Viper Models Available for Customer “Sold Orders”

Back in September, Dodge made the decision to reposition the Dodge Viper within its lineup, presenting a new price and accessories options that the limited-production hand-built car didn’t previously have. Now, Dodge Viper sales momentum is building, allowing the American carmaker to open up the system for dealers to place customer “sold orders” of both the 2015.5 Dodge Viper GTS and TA 2.0 Special Edition, which are joining the Viper lineup.

“The jump in Viper’s September sales after we announced the new $84,995 starting price showed that the overall repositioning to competitively price Viper with the first 1992 model was on target. But that was just the start,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of Dodge and SRT. “Today, we’re expanding the Viper lineup by offering the track ready Viper TA 2.0 and GTS models with even more content. This limited-production hand-built super car is the flagship of the Dodge brand, and we will continue to show our commitment to its future.”

The two new Viper models will offer more standard content compared to the 2014 models they replace, while the GTS starts with an MSRP of $107,995 and the TA 2.0 Special Edition starts with an MSRP of $101,995. Dodge Viper May Get Supercharged V10 Engine

If you thought the 707 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was powerful, wait until we tell you the rumors we’ve heard this week. Apparently, Dodge might be working to produce a Viper with a supercharged V10 engine, which could bring the performance vehicle’s power up to a whopping 800 hp.

If rumors are right, we might see the Viper supercharged with a V10 engine; increasing its horsepower to 800!

Automotive journalists at Allpar have had at least two sources confirm that supercharged V10 engines were recently delivered to Chrysler Group.

Currently, the Viper offers 640 hp when outfitted with its naturally-aspirated 8.4-liter V10 engine. Adding the supercharged power could raise that already impressive number by 120 horsepower. That is, of course, if the transmission, block, and other internal parts could handle all that power. We wouldn’t be surprised if the new engine requires the automaker to re-configure its current mechanics.

We at Corwin Dodge will keep our ears peeled for any more news or hints as to what the new Dodge Viper could have in store for performance enthusiasts. For now, we’ll be dreaming of 800 hp.

SRT Motorsports Heads to Canada for Toronto Pirelli World Challenge

This weekend, July 19 and 20, SRT Motorsports will take on the Toronto Pirelli World Challenge in a surprise entry. Kumo Wittmer will drive in the all-new No. 92 Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun to have Kumo step into the Pirelli World Challenge and test his skills in the Viper GT3-R against the top class in the series,” said Ralph Gilles, CEO of SRT Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC, in a statement. “This is a test Viper that Riley Technologies prepared and we see this race as an opportunity to showcase our customer program. We’ve had success in the series with Dan Knox taking the Viper to the winner’s circle during the Detroit race weekend and we want to continue building momentum with our Viper GT3-R program.”
