History of the Dodge Durango

Next year marks the twentieth anniversary of the introduction of the Dodge Durango. The model first made its debut in the 1998 lineup as a competitor to the popular Toyota 4Runner and Ford Explorer. In honor of the anniversary and to celebrate the upcoming 2017 model, we thought we’d go over the history of the Dodge Durango.

The Durango was originally created to mirror the Dodge Dakota truck, having a similar front body style but with a covered back, making it a mid-sized SUV. The second generation debuted in 2003 at the North American International Auto Show and was considerably larger, therefore classifying it as a full-sized SUV.

Since its introduction in 1998 the Durango has been a popular staple in the Dodge lineup.

The third generation of the Dodge Durango received a noticeable facelift and plenty of remarkable features, both inside and out. It was originally thought that the Durango would no longer exist after the 2009 (second generation) model, but Dodge unveiled teasers online that proved otherwise.

With outstanding features on the 2017 Dodge Durango, such as personalized memory seating, an available dual-screen Blu-ray entertainment system, and a customizable digital cluster display, it’s no wonder that this vehicle has been able to last this long in the automotive world.

The 2015 Durango R/T Performance: High-Octane Power and Then Some

A look inside the R/T!

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the new 2015 Dodge Durango R/T, then you’re missing out. Featuring high-performance engineering and revamped styling, the new Durango is causing quite a stir in the automotive industry.

The three-row Durango has been around in 1998, bridging the gap between compact crossovers and full-size SUVs. According to Top Speed, the 2015 Durango R/T performance is getting quite a boost thanks to the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that comes standard. This powerful engine generates 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, all while maintaining 23 mpg. Pretty impressive, especially for a seven-seater crossover.

“The Dodge Durango R/T was already one of the meanest-looking SUVs on the market (especially under the $40,000 range), but things get even better for 2015 with a sporty new interior package inspired by the new Charger and Challenger,” said Top Speed editors. “From every angle, the Durango R/T stands out from the sea of SUVs and crossovers on the market, and it does so without sacrificing capability or comfort.”

The new Durango is also getting restyled inside and out, featuring LED lighting, R/T trim, and a taller ride-height. On top of that, a “Beats by Dr. Dre” audio system and Nappa Leather come optional as well. With all of these features, it’s easy to see why the R/T is one of the most popular mid-size SUVs on the road. It’s one of our favorites here at Corwin Dodge!

Dodge Durango R/T Gets Glorious Red Nappa Leather Seats

Who wouldn’t want to recline on these comfy seats?

You’ve asked, and Dodge delivered. Get your butts ready—literally—for the latest addition to the 2015 Dodge Durango R/T: oh-so-glorious red Nappa leather seats.

Ever since the seats were shown on the Durango concept vehicle at the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, fans have been clamoring to see them offered in the production model.

Now they’re here, and they look incredible. The red Nappa leather perfectly complements the R/T’s menacing and sporty attitude, giving it an even more performance-oriented look than ever before—especially when combined with some of the other features included in the R/T trim, such as 20-inch tires with high-gloss Granite Crystal finish and a 20 mm lower ride height.

Red Nappa leather is also available on the Charger and Challenger in our lineup at Corwin Dodge, in addition to black Nappa leather, which has already been an option for some time. See you there.

New Dodge Durango Rules the Full-Size SUV Segment

The R/T boasts impressive luxury and technology.

The Dodge Durango, in all of its forms, has been a significant player in the full-size SUV segment for a long time, but now—thanks to the 2015 Durango R/T model, it now can completely rule the market. The R/T features a 5.7L V8 HEMI engine, a 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. engine, huge power numbers that will push you forward on the highway, no matter what or who you’re hauling.

Of course, you can get that engine as an optional feature on the Limited and Citadel models as well, but the standard engine is a 3.6L V6 engine with 290 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. Whether you’ve got a V6 or a V8, though, you’re assured of a beautiful full-size SUV with huge towing and hauling capacities.

There’s more than just an engine to this vehicle, though—it also features all kinds of technology. It’s got safety technology, infotainment systems, touchscreens; the works. Overall, the Durango is tough on the outside and soft and comfortable on the inside. You can fit the whole family in the backseat, where they can watch DVDs and settle in for a nice long road trip. Dodge Journey and Durango Win Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year Awards

Two Dodge vehicles stood out in the 11th annual Carspondent.com Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year awards competition, which every year invites hundreds of athletes and outdoor enthusiasts to evaluate and judge new vehicles.

The Dodge Journey was named the Best Value On-Road with its MSRP at or below $35,000, while the Durango was named Best Value Family.

Both the Dodge Journey and Durango have so much to give back to drivers that go along with their value. They provide the handling and power that you expect from a Dodge SUV while also providing a luxurious and comfortable interior for drivers and passengers alike.

Judging of the vehicles involved active, outdoor enthusiasts who went on ride-and-drive tests along with a small contingent of automotive journalists, which included a difficult off-road course and some on-road driving.

“The Dodge Durango [and] Dodge Journey … offer functionality and performance for any adventure, so they’re an ideal fit for customers with active lifestyles,” said Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales, Chrysler. And luckily for you, both can be found at Corwin Dodge! Stop in today to get behind the wheel of one of the Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year award winners. You won’t regret it.

2015 Dodge Durango Gets Hot Rallye Style

Last year, the Dodge Durango got a major update, so this year the changes are minimal. However, this year, the 2015 Durango does get some smoking hot appearance packages and a new sound system.

The Durango’s popular Rallye Appearance Package is now extended across all trim levels, including the Limited and base SXT trims. This available package will give your Durango a monochromatic look with smoked headlights, a ground effects package, and 20-inch Hyper Black wheels. For models equipped with the V-6 engine, you’ll get dual exhaust pipes and the Limited trim comes with leather seating.

For an even darker look, opt for the Blacktop Appearance Package on the SXT, Limited, and R/T models. This adds a glossy black grille, special badges, and 20-inch Gloss Black wheels to complement the Rallye look.

If you prefer high-end sound, be sure to get the Beats by Dr. Dre sound system. This 13-speaker system will be standard on the R/T model, optional on the Citadel trim, and part of package for the Limited models.

One more change for 2015 includes available red Nappa leather for the Durango R/T.

The 2015 Dodge Durango will be coming to Corwin Dodge later this year. What appearance package would you love to add to your Durango?

Dodge Durango and Journey Rock March Sales

Dodge’s March sales were able to reach great heights thanks to the Dodge Durango and Journey, two great staples in the Dodge lineup.

When it comes to March sales, Dodge’s poster child last month was no doubt the Durango, which posted its best March sales since 2005, perhaps still riding the wave of the extremely popular Ron Burgundy commercials. With sales up 22 percent compared to March 2013, the Durango succeeded in extending its streak of year-over-year sales gain to 17 months.

The Dodge Journey also showed great performance, with sales up 25 percent for the mid-size crossover’s best sales month ever. With enough room to comfortably seat up to seven and an award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 to carry them, the Journey is one of the most versatile and reliable mid-size crossover on the market.

In addition to the Dodge Durango and Journey, the Grand Caravan and Charger enjoyed significant success, with the former’s sales up 27 percent in March—the largest year-over-year percentage sales gain of any Chrysler Group vehicle that month—and with the latter’s sales up 15 percent, marking the Charger’s best March since 2007.

Dodge Durango Fuel Economy Improves in 2014

There’s really no areas in which the Dodge Durango isn’t vastly improved for 2014, including the Dodge Durango fuel economy numbers. With a 24 mpg rating on highway and 17 mpg in the city, the Durango posts high-class numbers for a seven passenger SUV. But, take it from us here at Corwin Dodge, the new Durango is impressive for many more reasons as well.

Let’s start with the powertrain options—Dodge offers a 3.6L Pentastar engine, a six-cylinder beast, standard on the Durango. The engine revs up to 290 horsepower and makes use of an eight-speed automatic transmission to keep a good grip on the roads while maxing out its power. However, you can feel free to upgrade to a 5.7L engine, a real behemoth that delivers huge numbers and huge loads of performance.

One of our favorite features of the 2014 Durango is the spacious interior. (And, no, despite how Ron Burgundy may try to pitch the Durango, we’re not talking about the glove compartment’s gum-holding potential.) Many vehicles can claim to seat up to seven people comfortably, but few follow through on that claim as completely as the Durango. From its aggressive exterior to its spacious interior to its balance of power and efficiency, the Durango is the perfect SUV for your whole family.

Dodge Durango and Ron Burgundy Team Up

For a little bit now, the Dodge Durango and Ron Burgundy have teamed up to help promote the newest model year, and it is proving to be very successful. Using witty comments and comparisons, Ron Burgundy is able to advertise the “best” features that the Durango offers, like its glove box.

In all seriousness, using Ron Burgundy as an advertising campaign’s spokesperson has increased Dodge Durango sales by just under 60% (59% to be exact). These commercials have also received more viral attention than most other car markets. On YouTube, the Dodge Durango and Ron Burgundy ads have reached up to seven million views.

Will Ferrell showed up in character as Ron Burgundy for a show on Conan O’Brien where he actually called the Dodge Durango a terrible car (joking of course) and went on to say how it only lasted four feet. He is definitely taking his role to the max, and not sure about you, but we can’t get enough.
